At the Saturday Stomp & Holler we celebrate all that is Americana; bringing you performances from musicians that draw upon this rich cannon of roots music in all its forms; gravely blues, foot stomping folk, rough house Celtic and sweet lonesome old time country, to name but a few.

Expect to hear harmonicas, banjos and fiddles; three point harmonies and one ‘man’ bands singing popular classics and underground traditionals with true grit and soul.

On Saturday the 5th of November our midday special Stomp + Holler guests are ‘The Rattlin’ City Ramblers’, a new Christchurch-based trio playing some folking good rock & reel.

They have a gutbucket, string band sound that has developed from their love of old Irish, American and Australasian folk, country, blues and rock. Traditional music plays a large part in their sound but they are anything but folk purists, adding modern pop songs to their repertoire and mixing musical styles whenever it suits them.

The band members are: Ian Costello (mandolin, guitar, banjo), Adam Gallagher (vocals, bass, guitar) and Nick Jackman (vocals, harmonica, guitar, drums). They have played in some of the most well-known Christchurch folk bands over the years, including The Black Velvet Band, Whiskey Hounds, The Finnegans and Bush Fire. Nick Jackman also performs regularly as a one-man-band, playing several instruments at the same time, a skill he brings to the Rattlin’ City Ramblers.

All three band members have known each other for a long time. Their music reflects years of them playing together, both professionally and just for the hell of it.
