Steve Abel with Nadia Reid and Reb Fountain

3 Garlands Road

This November Gustav’s has the rare and much anticipated pleasure of hosting the ever escalating-in-excellence Steve Abel. On the very eve of the release of his third album he will be returning south to C-City after a prolonged absence.

He is a true wizard amongst songwriters and has been described as…

“A mixture of the sparseness and cut throat honesty of Will Oldham and the dark, haunting lyrics of Nick Cave. The songwriting and musicianship is outstanding, talent.”

Reb Fountain and Jon Pearce will accompany him on stage for a performance that has…

“An impact that borders on the visual…arrant musical hypnosis…”
– William Dart of Radio New Zealand’s Concert FM

Nadia Reid and Reb Fountain, both powerful songsters in their own right, will open the show with songs from their self-penned cannons.

Steve Abel’s show in Woolston this November will be part of a three date South Island tour in support of his newly released song “Sidewalk Doves” and will, I’m sure prove to be an evening of melancholic masterpiece.
“Steve Abel’s part of cultural thing…which is a little bit about the reinvention of New Zealand. His music, its threads…it ties in with Tom Waits and all this stuff in America, but…there’s also something that’s been plucked out of Northland, some sort of seam or reality that’s been pulled out of the northern Wairoa river that’s just outside Dargaville.”
– Poet Greg O’Brien on Radio New Zealand National

This show will be seated so come early for a good listening post.
