Auckland based musical duo Jay Dubs and Hudge have teamed up to bring us a refreshingly vintage project that blends the dusty MPC sounds of the golden era, punchy kicks, luscious sampling and a forward facing rhetoric, hot enough to make a ghost pepper feel like a capsicum. Satori is a delicate balance of old and new school, its one for the head-nodders and lovers of the old days before rap music became what is today whilst still sounding fresh and creative. Accompanied by stunning hand painted artwork by Jay himself, this is a bonafide trailblazer. The ground swell is steadily building and anyone that has witnessed these two ex-londoners play live will confirm how chunky the dance floor gets when they jump on.

Jay’s 1st album ‘The Keynotes’ was released on Truetone Recordings (Shapeshifter) and was widely regarded as a groundbreaking interpretation of NZ Hip-hop.With the likes of Parks (Ladi6), P-Money, Lisa Tomlins & Devin Abrams (Shapeshifter) lending production finesse to the project, it remains a special slice of NZ Music.

He has toured multiple times with Shapeshifter, and has played alongside Kev Brown, Apollo Brown, Odyssey, Concord Dawn ,Six60, Tiki Taane, Tahuna Breaks, Sunshine Sound System, Wishbone, Grammatik, Julien Dyne, Raiza Biza, Opensouls, Louis Baker, Dj Q-Bert, Roots Manuva
and Bone thugs.

Hudge, a True Blue South Londoner with a sincere love of Hip Hop culture both old and new.

From being deeply involved in the London Hip Hop scene since back in 1989, Hudge moved to Aotearoa with his Kiwi wife and daughter in 2012, in search of the beach life and a fresh start. After his debut on NZ shores at The Turnaround, Hudge joined up with T Rice on the Uptown Boogie show (4-6pm every Saturday on George FM), played stand out sets at three consecutive Splore Festivals and has become a celebrated regular on Auckland’s club scene.

As well as DJing with J Dubs, Hudge has also been the DJ for Blak Twang (aka Tony Rotton), Stones Throw Record’s Guilty Simpson and London Posse legend Rodney P, as well as bringing the heat at jams with Kev Brown, Norman Jay, Mr Scruff, Manuel Bundy, AG, Total Eclipse, Dizzie Rascal’s and Roots Manuva’s DJ MK, Shortee Blitz, Channel One, TY, J-Period, Apollo Brown, P-Money, Che Fu, King Kapisi, Mr Thing, and has warmed up for Mos Def at the 2014 Soulfest.
