Trombone heavy, original, modern/avant garde jazz. From the land of the long white cloud, via New York City. This is Jackson Hardaker’s first concert in Christchurch since moving to NYC in 2009.

Featuring the music from his debut record ‘Watering Can’, Jackson and his Christchurch construction of Watering Can draws from a wide range of influences; from the sometimes sparse and always playful melodies of Steve Lacy, to the various stops along the artistic spectrum of Jackson Pollock and René Magritte, stopping off with inanimate objects along the way. The music can be at times haunting, surprising, humorous, and traverses the musical styles of rock, swing, march, punk calypso, and beyond.

Jackson Hardaker (trombone), Darren Pickering (keyboard/piano), Michael Story (double bass), Joe McCallum (drums)

“Trombonist Jackson Hardaker leads a light and pianoless quartet… He gets whimsical with a peg-legged clippety clop on The Whippo Hypothesis…”
