Dux de Lux RounDUp 2008 winner - The Klap

RDU RounDUp 2008 winners The Klap are Christchurch’s most offensive band. With an eclectic mix of influences and a cluster of instruments, the resulting sound is best described as Funeral Pop.

The group tends to be popular with faggy art-school types, so engulfed in their own self importance that there is little time left to listen to the music. The fans claim a myriad of references are apparent in the music, which the band are clearly too thick to have actually planted.

Once described by Delaney Davidson as “my favourite band”, The Klap have intended to suckle as much life as it can from Davidson’s minor fame.

Started in late 2007 with the aim of being Christchurch’s drunkest band, The Klap fast achieved its modest goal. A now unemployed man gave the group the opportunity to open for The Black Keys in mid 2008. Now a new set of targets have been set – world domination and nationalizing the riders of inferior bands.

Moving forward, the band seeks to make their sound more commercial and would like to sell out to anyone that has any offers. With a few singles released to date including Screenplay and Dying, The Klap has (not) received nationwide airplay.

A new release, Not Getting Younger, with an accompanying music video, produced by Gorilla Pictures, represents the beginning for a band who are just starting to show New Zealand what the next big thing sounds like.
