ROUND UP

Every year, at about this time, RDU98.5 FM puts out the feelers. Actually maybe antennae is more appropriate for a radio station, anyway whatever it is we put out, now is the time we start putting it out, feelers, antennae, whatever.
To cut a nonsensical introduction short. It’s nearly RounDUp time.
No, not the pesticide/herbicide made famous in a series of 1980s Television commercials featuring a catchy jingle but the annual musical genius seeking competition run by RDU and proudly supported by the country’s favourite watering hole, the Dux de Lux. Yes that RounDUp. Last years winners, The Tiger Tones have gone on to achieve the “Gods of Music” status that the Dux de Lux RounDUp competition guarantees.
Not only do winners have their band name emblazoned on the midget guitar of glory, not only do the winners go down in the fiery annals of RDU rock history, not only do the winners receive their name in print in next years CANTA Dux de Lux RounDUp article when it talks about last year’s winners, not only do the winners get to play at Southern Amp 07. This year’s winners also receive an absolute shit load of prizes with an actual real dollar value attached!!!

Due to certain issues involving sponsors and confirmations and various other certainties, I can’t go into the exact specifics of what the prizes will be exactly. I can tell you, however, that in the past prizes have included promotional tools to help you and your band to “get yourselves out there” these tools have comprised of cd pressings, the making of a video, professional studio recording time, poster printing and heaps of other cool stuff. This year’s prize pack will be along similar lines and don’t quote me on this but there has been talk around the studio of a family pass to Willowbank…maybe….just maybe….
We at RDU though, know that you don’t want to enter The Dux de Lux RounDUp 07 for the prizes! No way! We know that you really want to enter as it is an opportunity to participate in and perform your art, to allow yourself to be evaluated by your peer group and to share the stage with Friday drive show host Spanky.
